Leather and Leather Care.

We use only the finest American and Imported hides from what we consider to be the best tanneries in the world. We do not buy seconds or remnants of hides and in fact we look for our specific requirements and those of our clients when choosing leather.

The London Tanners imported British Harness Leathers are tanned with a process of vegetable or oak bark tanning methods using many Tallow's and oils and waxes in the finish. This gives the leather a unique suppleness and durability. This consistency is perfect for replicating the authenticity of Victorian Leather Paddles, Tawses, Whips, Straps, Strops, Spanking Belts, and Martinets. We work with hides anywhere between 9-16 ounces
(3-6 mm) depending on the requirements. If it is a single thickness item such as a Tawse, Ruler or Aunties Strap we will use a thick 12-16 oz (5-6 mm) leather. If it is a double or triple layer item such as a boudoir Paddle or spanking Strop where it is sewn together then an 8-14 oz (3-4 mm) leather is used
We buy from some of the oldest tanneries in England. Our suppliers include: Connerly Leathers (famous for their Rolls Royce upholstery leather), Crogan Tanneries (the oldest oak bark tannery in the world), Thomas and Sons (Beefeater Leather vegetable tan) and J & E Sedgewick (famous for their saddlery leather). The London Tanners also uses top quality leather from tanneries in Scotland, Australia and here in the USA.

We have had many people try and copy our designs using both inferior materials and workmanship for this reason all of our work is embossed with this stamp.

We offer a choice of colors London Tan, Dark Havana Brown, Rich Burgundy Red and solid Black. Because of the tanning and dying process and different thicknesses.
shades may vary slightly from hide to hide. Although we try and select the perfect piece of leather for our implements leather being a natural material and so it has grain and slight blemishes, This is what adds to its natural character.
Please, do not confuse our work with cheaply made mass produced Leather implements.

" When theirs are wearing out, Ours are just getting worn in."

Leather Care

With care your London Tanners implements should last a lifetime and be able to be passed on to your heirs.

Avoid excessive heat as this will cause the leather to dry out and crack. Always clean your leather with a non alcohol and non spirit cleaner. We recommend the following products as being tried and tested by us and they are available from us direct, or use a comparable beeswax leather conditioner. A good dubin (where available) as used on soccer boots also works very well to soften and protect our products. Use the same way work in with the fingers allow 24 hours to soak in then remove any excess with a dry cloth.
