Leather has played an important role in the development of civilisation. From prehistoric times man has used the skins of animals to satisfy his basic needs. Without leather, man may not have survived.
But do you ever wonder where all that beautiful London Tanner leather comes from that we use for all of our implements? It is a long process to get the leather to be exactly how we like it.
It comes from Britain’s only remaining traditional oak bark tannery, which has been around since the Roman times, and owned by the same family for 150 years. It takes 14 months to produce a piece of leather, using gentle process that protects the natural fibres of the hide, unlike modern tanning methods. Each piece of leather is hand finished and polished with natural oils and greases which protects the leather and ensures the luxury and quality that we, at The London Tanners insist on. Only the best leather will ensure that our implements will last for years to come.
If you’re using that quality of leather, then it’s only appropriate that we continue the craftsmanship to produce the best quality implements. Each one of our implements are handcrafted from start to finish. The hide of leather arrives at our workshop, it is hand cut, hand stitched and hand finished to the highest standards. Even the fittings we use are of the highest quality, imported from all over the world. Most of our patterns were unique to The London Tanners (before we were copied by others!), but no-one makes them like we do, or better! We will even make your own custom design, so you get the perfect implement just for you.
