The English Strap
Made of thick, supple 10-12 mm Leather available in Solid Black and Rich Tobacco Brown. This is 21 inches long and 1.5″ wide, made of a single piece of leather with all the edges having a saddler’s crash line and are bevelled and burnished to a glass smooth finish.
While the cane was by far the implement of choice in most English schools, there were significant pockets of strap use, like Walsall in the Midlands, England (a centre of leather manufacturing). Unlike in Scotland, errant schoolboys in Walsall were strapped across the seat of the trousers, not the hand. The London Tanner English Strap is a replica of one such strap that was once used in schools.
